The Haggard Herald

About a month ago Madeleine and I were laying down at night and I was waiting for her to fall asleep.  We had been there for about twenty minutes and she did not seem any closer to dozing off.  She sighed, then sat up and asked for the baby.  Since sleeping wasn't happening anyways I let her feel my stomach and let her stay sitting up.  She leaned forward and whispered "hi baby!"  Then she turned back to me and very seriously said, "Mom, open up! Hold her now!" I'm glad she understands the idea of there being another person around and that she's excited for it. Since then we bought her a twin size bed.  For the most part the transition has gone lovely.  She had double ear infections again though in conjunction with her two-year old molars starting to come (only 1 of 4 is all the way up).  So she's been waking up at night sometime--including last night.  I laid down with her for about 20 minutes but she was still awake.  I told her I wa...

Spring is coming.  I can feel it.  I started anticipating it December 23rd, when the days started getting longer again instead of shorter.  I announced to Matt when the sun set at 6:00 again for the first time about a month ago.  On President's day it felt like it wanted to be spring.  We dug in our garden soil and added more peat moss and compost and planted our peas (they still haven't come up yet though so maybe it's still been a bit too cold for them).  But still--the sun was shining and we didn't need three layers of clothes; in Utah that is close enough to be the start of spring for me.  We are looking forward to daylight savings and having an extra hour of daylight for Maddie and Matt and I to play together outside after work.  And I know sometime soon we will get that first really sunny day when you can go outside and actually feel warmed by the sun.
